ROCKY MOUNTAIN CONFERENCE MEN'S RUGBY 7s TOURNAMENT

The D1A Rocky Mountain Conference 7s Tournament is the continuation of a long line of 7s Rugby along the Eastern Rockies beginning in the spring of 1968. Although the organization's name and growth of the sport have changed the landscape slightly, the foundation of 7s Tournaments really remains as it was over 40 years ago.

During the early years all of the teams competed in the same tournament – men’s town teams and collegiate programs. Eventually the colleges separated into their own division and with the evolution of USA Rugby in 2011 the current format within college rugby 7s at a national level began to take shape.

The 2024 7s Tournament hosted by the Air Force Academy has all the vestiges of those early tournaments bringing together teams from across the breadth of collegiate rugby in the US. The tournament is part of the College Rugby Association (CRAA) D1A tournaments established to provide automatic qualifier status to the winner for the College 7s Championships to be held in Houston during May. Joining D1A teams for the tournament are teams from National Collegiate Rugby (NCR), American College Rugby (ACR), and the various divisions within each association.

The fantastic aspect of this tournament is that fellow rugby players all along the Rockies from Montana to New Mexico and from Colorado to Utah join each other in competitive play. These players from varied backgrounds and a wide range of career aspirations all get a chance to meet both on and off the pitch, to honor each other with intense play, build relationships as they interact off the pitch, and to advance the sport of rugby along the front range and beyond. We wish all the competitors good luck in the tournament as we remember the core values of World Rugby which are integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect; the defining character-building characteristics of rugby.

Integrity • Passion • Solidarity • Discipline • Respect
